Restaurant News

09 June 2008By Nathan Toohey / Special to The Moscow TimesThe city's restaurants continue to unveil their summer terraces, patios and balconies. The Pinocchio chain of upmarket restaurants has simultaneously opened three summer outdoor options. At the very start of Kutuzovsky Prospekt, Pinocchio has launched its huge terrace with seating for 200 people. Designed in an Italian style, it has soft cushions, warm blankets and pleasant music to keep diners comfortable and entertained.

Isola Pinocchio, in the Bashnya 2000 tower, has for a second summer running opened its summer balcony (pictured). Providing a fabulous view across the Moscow River to the ever-expanding Moskva-City development with its glass-and-steel towers, the balcony is nonetheless well isolated from the roar of the city.

For those looking to completely escape the hustle and bustle of Moscow, the Pinocchio in the village of Gorky-2 on Rublyovo-Uspenskoye Shosse has opened its summer veranda on the roof of the Katok.ru skating rink.

Pinocchio na Kutuzovskom:
4/2 Kutuzovsky Prospekt, (499) 243-5688, M. Kievskaya.
Isola Pinocchio:
23a T. Shevchenko Naberezhnaya, inside Bashnya 2000, 730-4400, M. Delovoi Tsentr.
Pinocchio na Rublyovo-Uspenskom Shosse:
Rublyovo-Uspenskoye Shosse, in Gorky-2 village, 781-0112.

For something in between the big city and a Rublyovka village, Shore House yacht club and restaurant has just launched its summer program with the opening of its "beach season." Located by the Crocus City Mall, the fashionable restaurant has ample deck chairs by the pool for lazy summer longing as well as covered sofa seating.

By the Crocus City Mall, intersection of Moscow Ring Road and Volokolamskoye Shosse, 727-2678.

One further restaurant to have opened its summer patio is art-cafe Galereya. As part of the summer season, the upmarket establishment has introduced a number of novelties. One feature is the i-bar -- an interactive touch-sensitive bar that produces colorful illuminated swirls of light and other animations -- emanating from every glass or hand that touches the bar. The entertainment doesn't stop at the bar, however, as every Friday starting at 10:30 p.m. there are dance performances, live music and DJ sets. Saturday evenings see live bands performing, and finally it's "Cinema on Sundays," with French films and even "Sex and the City" episodes. The films kick off at 7 p.m., and guests can expect such appropriate complimentary extras as Manhattan cocktails.
